The head of the U.K.’s consumer protection office, the Office of Fair Trading, has attacked Ryanair pricing plans and says some of the bank charges the low-fare airline imposes are barely legal. The airline rejected the comments by Office of Fare Trading CEO John Fingleton, arguing that it had no hidden fees and that extra banking charges cold be avoided if customers use a specific debit card recommended by Ryanair.
Fingleton, in an interview with the British newspaper, The Independent, in particular attacked surcharges imposed when customer pay for online transactions using standard debit cards. Fingleton also raised questions about airlines that automatically add travel insurance to an itinerary, forcing passengers to opt out. Ryanair countered its insurance scheme is already operated on an opt-in basis.source: aviationweek.com
